Duties of the Coffee/Tea Host at Ascension

 

The Coffee/Tea Host will take about 15 minutes to set up before the service, if there is no lunch.  

1. Coffee /Tea Setup (when there is no lunch)

 

a) Preparation Before the Service

  • Lights on. Light switch is to the right on the wall when entering the kitchen.
  • Open the sliding panels between the Kitchen and Meeting Room above the Serving Counter.
  • Let dishwasher warm up (takes 20 minutes): open door and insert grey drainpipe in hole in front left, put dishwasher tablet in, close door, only then plug in and switch on with left green button (if not already on).

 

Making Tea

  • Boil water for tea. Usually 3 thermos jugs.
  • Thermos jugs for hot water and coffee are in the open cupboard under the oven and microwave (by the window) or in the cupboard under the hob.

 

Making Coffee

  • 1 full pot is 2 litres of water.
  • Coffee is in our pantry. This is the right-hand, large cupboard with a brown door. The container shows the amount of water and how much coffee is needed.
  • Coffee filters are in the 2nd kitchen cupboard from the left, square box.
  • There is only one suitable thermos that can fit underneath. The thermos with lid with red knob. There is no hot plate. So when coffee has run through then cap it asap. Brewing time is 12 minutes.
  • Make sure the plug is in the socket.
  • Large measuring cups of up to 2 litres for putting water in the machine are in the kitchen cupboard to the left of the coffee machine.
  • Thermos jugs for hot water and coffee are in the open cupboard under the oven and microwave (by the window) or in the cupboard under the hob.

 

Prepare Supplies for Coffee/Tea

  • Coffee and supplies are set up on the Serving Counter and the Tea and supplies are set up on a table next to the Serving Counter (to the left) in the Meeting Room.
  • Blue trays to collect everything are in the left cupboard under the cooking island (on the side with the cutting boards).
  • Tea box (in the right-hand large cupboard, including stock of teas).
  • Coffee creamers
  • Sugar and sweeteners
  • Biscuits in cupboard above coffee are set out on the Serving Counter beside the coffee setup
  • Spoons are in the grey plastic container in the large left-hand wall cabinet or in the cutlery basket in the right-hand drawer of the kitchen island.
  • Coffee cups and saucers are in right-hand cabinet above the sink.
  • Tea cups (glass) are in 2nd cupboard from right above the countertop.
  • Glasses for juice in 2nd cupboard from right above the countertop.
  • Jugs for water or lemonade are in left cupboard under the coffee machine.
  • Sweet drinks are on the bottom shelf of the pantry.

 

(b) During Coffee/Tea Hour

  • Keep an eye on the Serving Counter and Tea Table to refresh the coffee/tea, supplies, and sweets if they are used up.

 

(c) Followup after the Coffee/Tea Hour

 

The Dishwasher

  • If it has not been turned on before the service, let the dishwasher warm up (it takes about 20 minutes): open door and insert grey drainpipe in hole in front left, put dishwasher tablet in, close door, only then plug in and switch on with left green button (if not already on).
  • When it is hot, then put dishes in. Close door and press the 2nd button from the left (the FIRST ORANGE button). A wash cycle takes about 5 min.

After Using

  • Remove plug from socket
  • Remove inside grey pipe on front left.
  • Clean and replace the 4 white strainers/baskets.
  • Place grey pipe loose on white base, DO NOT insert into hole.
  • Close door.

 

The Meeting Room

  • See that the tables are wiped clean.
  • Chairs are put back in place.
  • Table runners and flowers should be in the centre of tables.
  • Close the sliding doors between the Kitchen and Meeting Room.

 

Final Details

  • Check all sockets: remove all plugs from coffee maker, kettle, and dishwasher.
  • Turn off ceiling lights in kitchen and meeting room and white floor lamps if they were on.
  • Take garbage bag from left bin with you. New rubbish bags are in left-hand cupboard under coffee machine.
  • Bring used tea towels and dishcloths home to wash and bring them back the following week.

 

 

2. Coffee /Tea Setup when there is also a Lunch (the first Sunday of the month)

 

In addition to what is above, place on the Serving Counter:

  • White square plates (in the left large wall cupboard)
  • Napkins (left large wall cupboard)
  • Soup cups (left large wall cupboard)
  • Cutlery: for small group, cutlery from right-hand drawer in the kitchen island in the ‘basket’ is sufficient.

For large groups > 30 people use the 3 white plastic containers with cutlery (left large wall cabinet)
