Pray at all Times

Prayer is at the heart of the life of a Christian

At Ascension we hope to foster the life of prayer, that we might be led into the spiritual state where we are "praying at all times." (Eph 6:18)  This does not mean continually opening our mouths in prayer, but has been said to be a state of being, described by one theologian as, the “habitual, continual awareness of our life as being plainly in the presence of the Father, in every instant and in every circumstance, and a steadfast willing of the will of God” (R. Crouse).  Set prayers of the Church (the Divine Liturgy, the Daily Offices), private extemporaneous prayer, meditation, contemplative prayer all contribute to this spiritual state where our life becomes a prayer.

We commend the use of daily Morning and Evening PrayerClick here for more information on what are these daily offices, where do they come from, why do we do them, and how do we do them.

We offer lectio divina, something to guide your private prayerful reading of Scripture.  Please click here for meditations.

We will offer monastic retreats from time to time to foster contemplative prayer. Please click here for information on a retreat this September.

We have a Prayer Ministry Team (four individuals in our congregation) who have offered to pray confidentially for particular needs.  Please click here for more on that ministry and how to request prayer.
